Dear President and Vice-President of the Project Management Institute Cyprus Chapter,
Dear Secretary General of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
Distinguished Speakers and Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is with great pleasure that I address you today at the Project Management Conference. I am delighted to be a part of the 7th edition of this initiative, which after six successful years in a row, has become established as one of the most important business events in the country.

Its significance is evident in the activities undertaken by the Project Management Institute for the promotion of professional development that target achievement through the effective use of related tools. These initiatives are fully aligned with the core values of the Research and Innovation Foundation, which I proudly chair as Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology of the Republic of Cyprus.

Therefore, I would like to extend my gratitude to the organizers for bringing together more than 300 distinguished participants today to exchange ideas on the challenges and opportunities in business agility. The attendance of project management professionals, senior company executives, civil servants, academics, and professionals from all sectors of the economy, is a testament to the importance of this event.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Research, innovation, and technology are key enablers of economic sustainability. RIF is therefore the driving force that paves the way towards a thriving economy in our country. The Foundation’s funding Programmes aim to boost the Cypriot ecosystem, enriching it with a wide range of opportunities and support services.

To this end, RIF actively supports and promotes excellence in project management practices, recognising their critical role in the successful and efficient implementation of funded Projects. Up until now, the Foundation has allocated €149.5 million to a total of 958 projects through its RESTART National Funding Programmes. These figures reflect Cyprus’ significant number of project managers, while they highlight the professionals’ dedication to following the best and most efficient project management practices.

Additionally, RIF offers the necessary innovation funding toolkit to support:

  • the creation and initial development of innovative startups,
  • the rapid development of startups that intend to become more competitive in the global market,
  • innovative products or services and
  • the development of innovative products or services with quick global market penetration prospects.

RIF also supports partnerships between research organizations and enterprises making efforts to develop joint solutions to specific issues, by providing the necessary tools and guidance, while offering funding opportunities to finance research and innovation projects carried out by PhD candidates in Cypriot enterprises. Furthermore, we provide the tools needed by enterprises to connect with cutting-edge innovation to VCs.

Finally, RIF offers value-add support services through the Knowledge Transfer Office and the Innovation factory, aiming to promote and support innovation in the business community, through:

  • specially designed educational programmes,
  • mentoring and coaching services,
  • assessment services based on the business’ innovation capacity,
  • networking opportunities with investors,
  • events and activities that support the development of the ecosystem,
  • development of IP Strategy and IP Protection services,
  • technology marketing and support in deal making.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

With more than 400 start-ups and scale-ups, more than 140 tech companies, 2500 plus researchers and more than 4000 entrepreneurs, Cyprus has taken major steps towards becoming a regional tech hub and a standout destination for doing business, offering great growth prospects.

Together, we can build a brighter future, which is why I urge you all to look into RIF’s funding opportunities and implement the emerging techniques, tools and best practices that we will be introduced to today. We are here, as a reliable partner, to support you on your journey, stand by your side and help you evolve.

I would like, once again, to express my gratitude for being here today, and especially to the organizers of the event for giving us this unique and inspiring opportunity.
