Signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Defence, the Chief Scientist for Research and Innovation of the Republic of Cyprus and the Research Innovation Foundation

A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed today by the Ministry of Defence, the Chief Scientist for Research and Innovation of the Republic of Cyprus and the Research and Innovation Foundation. The purpose of the Memorandum is to define the framework for cooperation on issues of common interest.

The Memorandum provides for, among other things, the utilization of the current experience and know-how of the Research and Innovation Foundation in announcing Calls and evaluating proposals, which is necessary for the Ministry of Defence to announce and finance the Calls and also utilizing the Foundation’s electronic platform.

In addition, joint information days will be held to promote the culture of research and innovation in the Armed Forces as well as joint programs to address security and defence issues.

In the context of the signing of the Memorandum, the Minister of Defence Mr. Charalambos Petridis stated that the Ministry is taking another decisive step to support the research and innovation in defence and security sector and to enhance the competitiveness of Cyprus. Through these actions and energies, the ultimate goal is to further strengthen the operational capacity of the National Guard.

The Chief Scientist for Research and Innovation Dr. Nikolas Mastroyiannopoulos, noted that the signing of the Memorandum marks the beginning of a new era and forms a partnership with an innovative dimension. “Our common goal is to further strengthen the operational capacity and to technologically upgrade the National Guard as well as to create a new development model aiming at strengthening the competitiveness of the Cyprus economy,”
